Good morning!
You'd think a man in my line of work could see what's coming — but even my crystal ball can't keep up with all this mishegoss. It seems like every day a new law or executive order about AI comes down that we need to comply with.
Last December's executive order set out to create one national AI framework and rein in the states.1Yet Colorado's "algorithmic discrimination" law still takes effect at the end of this month, even as the Justice Department goes to court to strike it down.2
Building the AI-assisted hiring tools our clients run on is our whole business. So do we keep spending to comply, or wait and see? Now, on top of it all, a new order just dropped that treats the most powerful AI models (the ones our clients expect us to use) as national-security assets.3We're a multinational: can our overseas offices even use the same tools our U.S. flagship team picks?
Help me make these calls without conjuring a whole conclave of outside counsel. I expect you'll handle the details; I just want to know where to look and who actually gets to make these rules. Just make my head stop spinning.
Best regards,
Merlin
