Subject: Are you sure AI Adoption is a good idea?

Hi,

At our last board meeting, executive leadership made the case for moving quickly on AI adoption — cost savings, efficiency, increasing profitability, and the fact that several major clients have asked why we're so far behind the curve. The board was largely in favor. I didn't push back, but I should have, and I want to be better prepared next time.

I also chair the Friends board for the Linden Public Library, and through that work I've gotten an earful about the harder questions — training data, environmental impact, displacement of workers. My daughter is helping lead a group in town protesting a new data center going up off the highway, and while she's more leftie than I am, she's made some great points. It seems like every day there's some new story about AI getting something badly wrong, and the backlash is real. I've also heard from my son, the lawyer, that his firm is getting more and more data breach letters related to AI misuse. 

I'm all for saving money, but not at the cost of a hit to our reputation. The core question I keep coming back to is this: is there a way to do this ethically, or are we kidding ourselves?
