Strawbridge v. Curtiss

This case decided whether Section 1332 requires complete or only minimal diversity.

Several Massachusetts plaintiffs sued several defendants.  All but one of the defendants were citizens of Massachusetts; the exception was a defendant from Vermont.  The federal trial court dismissed the suit for lack of subject matter jurisdiction, and the plaintiffs sought review in the United States Supreme Court.
