Greiner Civil Procedure Version 02

Mas v. Perry

Section 1332 speaks of diversity of "citizenship."  To decide whether parties to a case are diverse, we need to know in which states they are citizens.  The rules for citizenship depend on the type of litigant.  This case articulates the results for human beings.  Different rules govern citizenship of corporations.  Still other rules govern citizenship of unincorporated associations (e.g,. labor unions, charities, business partnerships).
