The Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus
AAPIs have steadily built more formal structures to have their political voices heard. In 1984 the first Asian Pacific Caucus of the Democratic National Committee was organized for the Democratic Party convention held in San Francisco, CA. There, the first APC Platform adopted and presented to the convention included planks for civil liberties, immigration and naturalization reform, social and human services, business, and representation and voter registration.
In 1994, ten years later, then Congressman Norman Mineta founded CAPAC, the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus, which today counts 66 House seats (of 435) and 8 Senate seats (of 100).
