Schools Rethink History Lessons Amid Anti-Asian Racism (2022)

The rise of hate crimes against AAPIs from the Covid-19 pandemic gave rise to a movement to add AAPI studies to curriculums in many states.

According to The Asian American Foundation (TAAF), in 2024 there are 20 states that mandate the teaching of AAPI history to varying degrees in K-12 classrooms, and an additional 5 states are actively considering legislation. Only 1.6% of all U.S. universities offer an AAPI studies program.
