Responding to Anti-Asian Messages at Oxy | Occidental College
This college webpage chronicles the not atypical aftermath of a racist incident on campus. In this case, a spring 2022 private text exchange among students ("all Asian people need to die") that went public on social media. A student opinion in the campus paper soon after the incident provides a contrast in tone.
As outcry over handling of campus speech in the wake of the October 7, 2023 has only grown, toppling two of three elite university presidents who were called to testify before a House Committee, the question persists: How should individual members of an educational community, and the institution itself, address such situations?
