Topics in Financial Regulation: Consumer and Investor Protection

TFR Class Eight: Insurance Regulation Continued: Mutual Form and Federal Encroachments -- March 2, 2015

In today's class we will complete our discussion of consumer protection in insurance regulation. We will start with the materials on risk classification assigned for Class Seven, as well as a short Excerpt on the Mutual from Chapter Seven of Regulation of Financial Institutions (1999). The bulk of our class discussion will explore the role of the federal government in the regulation of insurance, starting with a series of cases arising under the McCarran-Ferguson Act and then turning to ERISA, a topic that will carry-over in to Class Nine.
