AGs' Use of Dodd-Frank and Other Federal Consumer Protection Statutes

On July 21, 2010, President Obama signed into law the sweeping Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act. Contained within it is the Consumer Financial Protection Act of 2010, which created the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and empowered the state AGs to bring federal claims under Sec. 1042 of that Act.

This section explores recent cases where the AGs have brought such claims, including AG Josh Shapiro's case against Navient, one of the nation's largest student lenders and loan servicers.
